A course might be proving stubborn and difficult to understand (giving you unnecessary challenges). This was my issue with Chemistry when I first started studying it but at the end of my secondary school period, I graduated with an A in chemistry because I came to love it and find my way around it. So I’m here to tell you what you need to do and help you work towards academic success.
So, this brings us to the question;
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO UNDERSTAND THESE DIFFICULT COURSES
1. LOVE THE COURSE
It may seem funny but this is the first step to understanding those difficult courses. Someone might have told you that these courses are difficult and that has made you hate the course automatically but there is still a chance for you to take a U-turn. You have to love the course and be passionate about learning it.
2. KNOW THE BASICS (AGAIN)
Most of the challenges we face when trying to understand a particular course is usually because we have missed the basics at some point in our learning. The fundamentals of every course are always the building blocks to you’re a in that course. So if you lost out in the basics take some steps back and try to learn them again. It is will help you take note of things you may have lost track of or forgotten in the learning process.
3. ASK FOR HELP
Another reason why you are finding a course difficult is because you have been trying to do it on your own. There are always people and tutors out there who don’t see the course as difficult to understand. Seek help from these ones and watch your understanding increase.
4. PUT IN MORE TIME
Make conscious effort towards understanding those courses. Put in more time to your personal study and group study. You must be aware that you cannot give such course the same time you give other courses you are very OK with. So you must be ready to work hard and smart so as to get the results you want and improve your understanding. Also, you must read with full concentration because it improves your understanding too.
Whether it is a calculation course or not, you must practice. Constant practice of a particular thing makes you a guru in no time. It also builds your love for that thing and this is one of the secrets to understanding difficult courses. When you read, answers question on what you have read, solve practice questions regularly than normal and always try to see if you can recall things you read without looking at the book.
6. ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS
No one knows it all. Never feel shy or too big to ask. Humble yourself and raise that hand to get clarification on what you do not understand. It is better to get laughed at in class than at the result board. Don’t you think so?
Because you are special, I have a bonus tip for you.
There are always those bulky courses. Always very long and boring to read. What you need to do is to break down each topic into small parts, then face the topic part by part. Don’t try to pump in everything into your brain because you might only cause more confusion for yourself.
In conclusion, no course is above you. You are above them all. Never give up, work hand and see yourself overcoming every difficult course.
