Self-esteem is describes as a person’s sense of evaluation or worth for himself or herself. This can be influenced by a number of reasons or circumstances surrounding the individual. Low self-esteem is a sense of lack of confidence or value for oneself.
Factors which influence low self-esteem include;
- SOCIAL MEDIA
- FRIENDS AND PEERS
- EMOTIONAL DISASTERS, amongst others.
One of the most prominent factors which affect self-esteem these days is peer group. This may be because of the way your peers might make you feel like an outcast when you choose to do things differently from the crowd. Also, bullies can add to the feeling of low self-esteem. You must learn to stay true to yourself and accept your difference. Do not beat yourself down for being a victim of low self-esteem because it happens to every 3 out of 10 people in one way or another.
Certain characteristic accompany people with low self-esteem. These include; Sensitivity to any form of criticism, aggression, little or no happiness, low confidence level, anxiety, etc. If you are a victim of low self-esteem for any reason whatsoever, there is hope for overcoming it and having a sound and healthy mind. TO OVERCOME A LOW SELF ESTEEM AMONG PEERS, YOU MUST DO THE FOLLOWING:
Having allow self-esteem actually makes you lose and forget who you actually are. Take out time to reevaluate yourself and know what you like and dislike. Understanding yourself helps open your eyes to areas by which you have allowed low self-esteem creep into your life.
STOP PLEASING PEOPLE:
Most people have lost themselves and developed low self-esteem by always pretending in an attempt to please others. This makes you lose interest in your own self and always focus on pleasing others who might even clear less about you. Be yourself and respect your own decisions. Be unapologetic for who you are; if people are not happy about it, they can walk away.
LEARN TO SAY NO:
Due to the fear of hurting other people’s feelings or fear or what others will say, you may have said yes to things that didn’t suit you. Whenever you say Yes to something you do not like, you end up making yourself unhappy. Build up courage and learn to be a precise person. Speak your mind and be firm in your stance about what you like and don’t like.
FOCUS ON POSITIVITY:
Low self-esteem usually makes you blind to the good things happening around you and the successes you have recorded at some point in life. Celebrate and reward yourself for your successes, no matter how small they might be. Accept compliments and kind gestures from others around you. Believe it or not, no matter how your peers may have looked down on you, there are still people out there who admire you.

BE AROUND FRIENDS WHO LOVE YOU
“BAD ENERGY STAY FAR AWAY”. Low self-esteem will certainly kick in when you surround yourself with people who make you feel bad about yourself. Spend more time with people who appreciate you. This makes you feel good and better about yourself. Build positive relationships with people with positive vibes. Family can come in very handy here.
